Where and who do we want to be? How might we get there? What might
happen if we stay on our current course? The Future of Stuff asks
what kind of world will we live in when every item of property has
a digital trace, when nothing can be lost and everything has a
story. Will property and ownership become as fluid as film is
today: summoned on demand, dismissed with a swipe? What will this
mean for how we buy, rent, share and dispose of stuff? About what
our stuff says about us? And how will this impact on us, on
manufacturing and supply, and on the planet? This brief but mighty
book is one of five that comprise the first set of FUTURES essays.
Each standalone book presents the author's original vision of a
singular aspect of the future which inspires in them hope or
reticence, optimism or fear. Read individually, these essays will
inform, entertain and challenge. Together, they form a picture of
what might lie ahead, and ask the reader to imagine how we might
make the transition from here to there, from now to then.
High temperature oxidation & hot corrosion causes degradation
of materials in power plant boilers and gas turbines .To obviate
this problem oxidation & hot corrosion behaviour of Boiler
Steel SA-192 and Cobalt based superalloy of coated & uncoated
has been studied in air & Na2SO4+60%V2O5 at 850C & 950C.
For determining the effect of LVOF spray method we have coated both
specimen .Coating has been done by LVOF of Al2O3+40%TiO2 .At both
temperature superalloy go through cyclic oxidation which consist of
1 hrs heating in Kanthol wire tube furnace followed by 20 minutes
cooling in ambient air. Weight change has been taken after each
cycle by digital electronic balance machine which has accuracy of 1
mg. Results come in form of weight change, we divide it by total
surface area of used specimen and plot a graph between weight gain
and Number of cycle. Results shows Coating reduces the oxidation
and hot corrosion rate in all types of environment for both
materials .
The Future We Deserve is a collection of 100 essays from people of
all walks of life discussing our world from amazingly different
perspectives. Utopia or oblivion, plenty or famine, freedom or
slavery? We do not know, but we do know that there is a vital
thread of insight which emerges when people think together about
what they really want, what matters most to them, and how we are
all going to live in just a few years.
This book presents the select proceedings of the International
Conference on Advanced Functional Materials and Devices (AFMD
2021). It highlights the advancements in area of functional
materials which includes electronic, magnetic, optical, adaptive
and dielectric materials that are required to develop new
functionalities with better performance in this new era of
technology. The topics covered include materials for energy
harvesting, biomedical applications, environmental monitoring,
photonics and optoelectronic devices, strategic applications and
high energy physics. This book will be a useful reference for
beginners, researchers, academicians and professionals working in
the area of material science and its allied fields.
